 The United Pentecostal Church of Sparta was started in August, 1974. Bro Paul Patterson was the founding pastor. A house with 1.5 acres of land was purchased for approximately $15,000.00, the vision of a U.P.C. church in Sparta was in the making. The church has had six pastors since it's birth. Bro. Patterson, Bro. Reed, Bro. Vanoy, Bro. Moore, Bro. Grinder, and for the last eight years, Bro. McFarlin. The old building was sold in September of 1994 for $40,000.00. A Three acre lot was purchased, and a new building was built. June the 16th, and 17th, of 1994, about 60 men and women, from across tennessee came together to build the new building. During these two days the building was completely dried-in, the inside was built, electrical roughed in, and some of the central air was completed. The three acres and new building (2800 sq') came to a total of $60,000.00. Praise God! We only owe around $13,000.00 now. Our church averages about forty during Sunday school. Our record attendance was 101 on Easter Sunday 1996.
